A private collection in Langenlois: Austrian Modernism and contemporary art

The Renner-Lanjus Collection is a private Austrian art collection based in Langenlois, Lower Austria. Its origins reach back to the Viennese salons of the turn of the century, where the Bach family brought together art, music and literature. Through Therese Bach, married Lanjus, the collection passed into the Renner-Lanjus family and is today led by Josef Renner.
At its core are works of Austrian Modernism and the post-war period, including Maria Bach, Felix Albrecht Harta, Ferdinand Stransky, Leon Abramowicz, Christa Hauer-Fruhmann and Rudolf Korunka, complemented by selected contemporary positions from artists such as Markus Bacher and Friedrich Biedermann.
We preserve, research and exhibit. An in-house research team works continuously on provenance, artwork and biographical research. In rotating exhibitions, works from the collection meet contemporary positions. The engagement with our own history remains the measure — not as retrospect, but as an ongoing conversation.
